HealthStays is a visionary initiative led by the Rotary Clubs of Maitland to provide affordable and comfortable accommodation for patients and carers accessing medical treatment at Maitland Hospital and local community allied health facilities.
The project has three phases:
Site acquisition and planning
Fitout and operation
Construction
The $2.5m first phase is now funded following a recent gathering of the Maitland Business Community, whose support has been instrumental in advancing the project. “This is critical community infrastructure,” said Trevor Lynch, Chair of HealthStays. “Securing the site is a major step forward, and we are incredibly grateful to the local business leaders who have made it possible to address an immediate need that will create a legacy that benefits generations to come.”
“This exciting commitment of funding enables the HealthStays board to deliver on its mission: to provide safe, affordable, and welcoming accommodation for those who need it most—when family, wellbeing and comfort matter. “
The $6.5m construction phase will be funded through business support, grant opportunities and Rotary’s continued grassroots fundraising efforts. There is more to be done! Major benefactors always play a significant part in this and enable government co-funding to be sought. The facility is planned to operate from early 2027.
Key Highlights:
Land for the facility at 34 Turton Street, Metford is now secured in the first $2.5m phase of the project.
A public-facing project map is in development to keep our partners and our community up to date with the project’s progress.
Engagement and fundraising initiatives continue with Government, the business community, regional stakeholders and the community. Funding momentum is critical now.
